About Me:
THE STREET LYRICAL PHARMACIST
S.H.A.H CYPHA
Who is he?
A Brooklyn born native, Derrick Bryant began listening to music as his mother Jarett Bryant would play. As a youngster he observed his surroundings, and quickly adapted to his changing environment. Cornell, his oldest brother would DJ around the house, using his mother’s old turntables. Cornell always played the newest music, which allowed him to stay on top of his game. He often made oldies sound new. This is how Derrick found himself coming up with his own version of songs. His childhood dreams of becoming a doctor, lawyer, or athlete, were often shadowed by his obsession for music.
The Birth of the Gift
During his elementary and junior high school years, Derrick would write poems as a form of self expression. He knew this form of writing was his gift, and also his talent. He kept on writing many different pieces, even thou he was undecided in which direction he wanted to go. Until he heard the Tical album by Method Man. This album inspired him to deeply explore the world of hip-hop. He knew in that culture of style, talent and musical passion he belonged. Not just as a listener, but as a rapper.
The battle given name
Now that Hip-Hop was his new culture, much like the Native Indians he must come up with a name that best fits his character. He became Mysterious Redeyes. His personality was Mysterious and Redeyes was chosen because his eyes were always that color. After a while Mysterious Redeyes no longer suited his personality that became stronger with age. And the color of his eyes had nothing to do with his personality.
During his High School years he decided to expose his dream. Word quickly spread as he battled other rap hopefuls in the hallways. During his lunch break he would join the circles where others would battle. His attitude was “eat or get eaten” so losing was not an option. For him it wasn’t just a battle, it was a war that had to be over before the next class. Everyday was a different battle and everyday he sent another cipher loser to there next class.
While battling after school he met Shane. He brought rappers from all over the boroughs to battle him determined to break him down. What Shane didn’t realize is that the big crowds and the pressure mad him battled even harder. From that day on he referred to him as Cyph because he crushed every cipher he was in. Plus Shane never knew his name. He kept the name Cypha because to him rap is a part of his life’s circle. Even though Cypha was a good enough name it needed to be personalized. So he came up with S.H.A.H which means Stay Hot Always Hard.
The street addition
Referred to as the Street Lyrical Pharmacist, S.H.A.H Cypha’s lyrical arrangements are said to be more addictive than any drug. He is able to touch the mines and hearts of those who can understand and relate. Not only did he discover his talent and a culture in which he belonged. He found a meaningful name that defines his passion for music.
Know the Name – Now see the Face
S.H.A.H Cypha has performed in many shows along the east coast, opening up for the likes of Tony Sunshine, Jadakiss and Ray J. He has also had the pleasure to perform in various showcases; rock star arena, faces in the crowd, and the Illustrious Entertainment’s CUT Showcase on many occasions. Cypha has also been featured on several websites like allhiphop.com, www.hiphopruckus.com, hiphossip.com (Canada's underground music website), talkdatish.com, music4040.blogspot.com, and mslaaady.blogspot.com and has been interviewed by the Delaware News Journal. Currently you can gain access to his music through itunes.com, emusic.com amazonmp3.com, rhapsody.com, napster.com & datpiff.com. As word of his new release ALL OR NOTHING spreads, S.H.A.H Cypha his self has been doing the same. Currently any stage can be a customer to the street lyrical pharmacist.
